The Vedic Chart

The chart above shows the South Indian Chart. In this chart the signs are always in the same position. Pisces is in the Upper left, followed clockwise by Aries, then Taurus, etc. This chart clearly reveals how the signs of Vedic Astrology encircle the earth, transmitting energy from the Galactic Center. These deep Cosmic forces are the primeval qualities, existent since time immemorial. They are our deepest and most profound of connections. Each day with every rotation of the Earth, we reconnect to these forces. Living in harmony with them and perhaps helping others to do so as well is the reason we have Vedic Astrology.

The diagonal line marks the ascendant. It shows which sign was “rising” on the eastern horizon when the native was born. Houses in a chart are counted inclusive from the ascendant. In this case the native is an Aries, as this box denotes the sign of Aries. Taurus is the 2nd house, Gemini the third, etc

Regardless of where the line falls (which sign) the houses are counted inclusively from that point. At the time of Birth. This is the Chart of A Leo. Virgo is the second house, Libra the third, etc. These two charts could be from 2 people born on the same day at the same time, yet in different parts of the world.

Other Attributes of Signs and Houses

Fire Signs - related to dharma (right action) Dharma is what we really feel compelled to do and the sacrifices we make for it. It is usually our career or vocation. Fire signs are inspirational and action oriented.

Earth Signs – related to artha (wealth and comfort) Artha means wealth. It is the money and resources we need and what we to do keep it. Earth signs are material and security oriented.

Air Signs – related to kama (happiness and pleasure) Kama is the pleasure we derive from the things we have, and the price we pay for it. Air signs are social and desire oriented.

Water Signs – related to moksha (transcendence, liberation) Moksha is our desire to be free of the confines of mind and body and the difficulties this brings. Water signs are emotional and connection oriented.

In addition to the 4 elements, each element has one of these 3 qualities to it. The qualities are:

Moveable – active and changing but pushy – good for initiating but not always for staying the course.

Fixed – steady and focused but stubborn – good for the long haul, but not easy to get started or change.

Dual – flexible, can lead or not, but can be unfocused – In general, best communicators.
