(Cancer) - Symbolized by the Crab Sage Parashara says: The sign Kataka is pale red in hue, resides in forests, Brahmin by caste and is strong in the night. It is many footed and has a bulky body; it is Sattwic in disposition, it’s element is water; it rises with its back and the Moon has been regarded as its lord. Cancer The sign of cancer is ruled by the Moon. The Moon is the archetype of female consciousness. In fact the Moon is the planet of consciousness itself. Through the Moon we don't feel empowered to act in a decisive manner. Thus cancers may feel overtaken by their environments, and feel like an emotional sponge. The cancer is always absorbing their environment, feeling into the heart and mind of others. This can be overwhelming thus they develop a protective shell, yet they must be careful not to turn the shell into a little prison. They have a bulky nature, as they accumulate many things in order to feel protected against the potential onslaught of the emotions and ideas of others. This tendency to accumulate is shown by the son as the second Lord, the second house is the House of our possessions.
